Massage Therapy for Relaxation and Stress Management

"Deal with Today"

It seems that today, more than ever, we are under a steady barrage of stressors.  Workplace pressures, relationship issues, raising children, negative news, and a host of others combine to shift our focus from the present moment to either past or future events; that causes stress.

Stress is a natural response to anything that represents a threat - real or imagined. It is also a necessary part of the human psyche. It helps keep us invigorated, energetic, focused, and alert.  Yet countless studies have shown that our individual stress levels contribute to, or are often the root cause of, many physical issues.

Many evidence based studies have shown that therapeutic massage often results in a lower heart rate, cortisol levels and insulin levels; all of which contribute to your overall stress level.  Cortisol is often referred to as the “stress hormone” because it is secreted in higher levels during the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response to stress.  It is responsible for several stress-related changes in the body which, in small doses have positive effects like; a quick burst of energy for survival reasons, heightened memory functions, and lower sensitivity to pain.

However, higher and more prolonged levels of cortisol in the bloodstream (like those associated with chronic stress) have been shown to have negative effects, such as: blood sugar imbalances, impaired cognitive performance, suppressed thyroid function, higher blood pressure, lowered immunity and inflammatory responses, and a host of other health consequences.

Book an appointment today and see for yourself how therapeutic massage, combined with effective coaching can help get your stress under control and become an essential component of your healthy lifestyle.
